Cres is an island in the Adriatic Sea, part of Croatia. It was one of the northernmost islands in the Kvarner Gulf. It is about 405.78 km in area and it the same size as its neighboring island, both of which are the largest in Croatia. As of 2011, Cres only has a population of 3,079 people. Cres’s only freshwater source is Lake Vrana. This island has several towns that are all connected by the main road that runs down the middle of the island.

This island is also home to the famous bird species, the endangered Eurasian Griffon Vulture; it is also home to a huge variety of nonvenomous snakes. As mentioned before, Lake Vrana is their only source of fresh water making it heavily guarded and regulated; it is highly illegal to swim or fish in this lake.

A good portion of this island has become overgrown by agriculture, a lot of the population has left in search of more opportunity on the mainland. Tourism is becoming increasingly popular every year with many cafes and shops opening up seasonally. You can reach Cres using 2 options, either by ferry or you could sail there. It is also known for its incredible beaches and crystal clear water.
