It should come as no surprise that much of the debris pollution that is found in the ocean originates at beaches worldwide. Over half of the world’s population lives within relatively close proximity of a coastline, and going to the beach is a common summertime activity in many places. With the popularity of beach-going peaking during the summer months, the beaches become crowded, and as a result, rubbish and trash is often left behind.

Commonly, plastic bottles, disposable plates and cutlery, and aluminum cans are among the worst offenders in the pollution pool. These items do not degrade over time and continue to exist forever, releasing toxic pollutants and creating dangerous hazards for wildlife.

With the amount of ocean pollution that is creeping into the environment, it is more important than ever for both individuals and localities to get serious about curbing beach pollution.
