Today is the day to go outside and celebrate nature. June 5th is World Environment Day, first established in 1972 by the United Nations General Assembly. Every year, a different city is chosen to host the festivities. This year the host nation is India and the theme chosen for this year’s World Environment Day is “Beat Plastic Pollution”. We are striving to decrease the amount of plastic we as humans use in our daily lives.

How can you observe World Environment Day?

  1. Stop using single-use plastic!

Single-use plastic is destroying our planet’s ecosystems and habitats. One of the most important things that you can do today is make a commitment to stop using single-use plastic. Pick-up a reusable water bottle and cut down on the plastic waste. Help us reduce our human impact!

  1. Volunteer

As a beach-town, San Diego has multiple beach clean-up events going on at all times. Check community calendars for more information on where you can volunteer to support the cause.

  1. Recycle

Make sure to always dispose of your waste properly. Hang on to that empty water bottle until you find the next recycling bin. Think twice, before you throw!
