World Oceans Day is celebrated on June 8th. This year the theme is to end plastic pollution. World Oceans Day is a global event dedicated to connecting us through our love of the planet we call home. Events are taking place around the globe and you can find a complete list here.

World Oceans Day has been celebrated annually since 2002. The idea came from Canadian government during the Earth Summit in Rio De Janeiro in 1992. In 2008 the United Nations agreed to honor World Oceans Day every June 8th. Making this the 10 year anniversary of this awesome movement.

Since the inception of World Oceans Day, more than 2000 organizations and individuals have become active sponsors in helping to grow this movement. Anyone is welcome to participate and you can find out more about the history of World Oceans Day here.
